Description
Multitel is an innovation centre, located in Mons, Belgium. The centre has 20 years of history. It was created in 1995. Two departments of Engineering Faculty of Mons (which became now the University of Mons) had proposed several common projects whose objective was to reinforce the economic development of the province of Hainaut by means of technological development. Those projects were labelled with the name of Multitel, which became the official name of our centre in 1999. That year, Multitel became a non-profit independent research centre. The same year, the Catholic University of Louvain joined Multitel in order to speed up the transfer of its research results to companies. Multitel became a bridge between universities and the industry (transfer of pure research to applied research in order to enhance the exploitation of the research results in companies). On the one hand, it continued receiving financial support from European and regional funds, on the other hand, it has developed its own financial sources thanks to industrial contracts (consultancy, test, training, licences). The period 2000-2007 was marked by the creation of several spin-off companies: IT-Optics, Acic, Smartwear…. In the period 2007-2013, Multitel has acquired a new expertise in the railway domain and has become a worldwide leader in this field. In the period 2014-2020, Multitel continues the diversification of its activities by developing strongly in pumped storage hydroelectricity and Smartcities. We have now two buildings and 3 offices (Mons, Tournai and Lille-France).
Multitel’s mission consists of two parts: R&I in state-of-the-art technologies through local and European partnerships & serving companies through innovation & services. Multitel supports companies in their technological innovation projects, from the exploratory phase, feasibility study to development and pre-production.
We offer several services to companies, mainly 3 groups of services:
* Supporting SME's by offering them different services: feasibility studies, technological guidance, sampling/micro-production service, partnership for regional and European research programmes.
* Training (catalogue & on-demand) in several fields: network engineering (appointed by Redhat), applied photonics, signalling processing and railway signalling.
* Organizing workshops and thematic conferences about video surveillance, Wifi, IPv6, RFID, NFC, photonics for industry.
