Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking is investing €104.5 m into circular bio-based projects

No image description.

On 18 May 2021, the new Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) projects signed several grant agreements with 18 new projects that were selected for funding under the Horizon 2020 Call for proposals. These projects span over 26 countries across the EU and beyond and are worth €104.5 m. This is the seventh and last BBI JU call and brings the total investment of the initiative to €821.6 m and their portfolio to 142 projects.

BBI JU is a €3.7 bn partnership between the EU and the Bio-based Industries Consortium. The projects aim to reinforce resource efficiency and develop new bio-based products across Europe. This includes:

  • assisting in the creation of green jobs;
  • supporting the European economy, especially in rural and coastal areas;
  • boosting competitiveness in the industry;
  • increasing business opportunities to build a circular and sustainable bio-based industry in Europe.

To this end, the projects’ consortia promote innovation and introduce new tools for stakeholders in the bio-based industry.
