New EU Cybersecurity Strategy to make physical and digital critical entities more resilient

No image description.

On Wednesday 16 December 2020, the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy presented a new EU Cybersecurity Strategy. This strategy aims to bolster Europe’s collective resilience against cyber threats and help in ensuring that all citizens and businesses across Europe can fully benefit from trustworthy and reliable services and digital tools. Examples of these services and tools are connected devices, the electricity grid, banks, planes, public administrations and hospitals.

The new EU Cybersecurity Strategy will be a key component of Shaping Europe’s Digital Future, the Recovery Plan for Europe, and the EU Security Union Strategy. Moreover, the strategy will enable the EU to take leadership on international norms and standards in cyberspace, as well as to strengthen cooperation with partners across the world in promoting global, open, stable and secure cyberspace that is grounded in the rule of law, and mindful of human rights, fundamental freedoms and domestic values.

The full press release and additional information is available on the European Commission website.

The Advanced Technology for Industry (ATI) project conducts analyses of national and regional policies in the EU Member States on specific policy challenges, technological area or mode of implementation and policy tools that have been designed and implemented to foster the generation and uptake of advanced technologies. An example of this is Cybersecurity.

Explore the ATI project’s Policy Brief on Cybersecurity: more investment and better skills that discusses EU strengths and weaknesses in cybersecurity technologies and the potential of the industry in Europe; and a review of EU and national level policies and measures enhancing cybersecurity capabilities to stimulate a stronger cybersecurity industry.
