Spain is implementing more open data portals within its administration

In September 2020, the Spanish government published an overview of the implementation of open data portals in the country. The report shows that a lot of progress has been made in the summer, where six new portals promoting open data have been created. Open data portals are online platforms that allow users to access “open data” i.e. re-usable information that is free of charge.

With the six new Spanish open data portals, five new initiatives to encourage the re-use of information shared by public bodies were also launched. Information and news on these portals and initiatives are shared on the specific open data portal websites, which also share the different available open datasets. For instance, Terrassa City Council – from the townhall of Terrassa in Catalonia – launched its open data portal in July with open datasets regarding the city. On this portal, there are currently 134 datasets available on various subjects, such as demography, health, tourism and transport. Moreover, on the website, the terms and benefits of open data are explained, along with the different types of datasets that can be found.

Another step regarding access to open data has also been made in the city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The city council announced that they would use their open data sources in order to signal where parking spaces are available in the city and the state of the traffic. This will ease the life of inhabitants in Galicia, especially in the city centre.

The Advanced Technology for Industry (ATI) project has created a data dashboard which provides statistical evidence on eight policy dimensions regarding countries and industries. The dashboard aims to support policy and technological transformation by providing additional information.
