Description
The Prototyping & Innovation Center (PaIC) is affiliated with the Technical University of Košice and operates under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Our primary objective is to strengthen the collaboration between research and industry, with a particular focus on Manufacturing, Robotics, Space Technologies, and High-Tech Materials. By utilizing our extensive expertise and resources in these areas, we aim to foster innovation, address the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and develop applications that surpass current industry standards.
The Prototyping & Innovation Center comprises the following key facilities:
-
A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, featuring a diverse range of CNC machinery, measuring equipment, and assembly testing spaces.
-
The Robotics Hub Košice, specialized in robotic systems for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and robotics for inspection & maintenance of infrastructures in our society.
-
A Space Technology Center focusing on areas such as Electric Propulsion, including Hall Effect Thruster systems.
The center is proud to be certified in ISO 9001 and AS9100, demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality services and products. Furthermore, we meet the stringent requirements and complexities of the aerospace industry.
Examples of achievements / projects of the center :
-
innovative robotic systems for decommissioning of nuclear plant equipment (The project involved the development of a remote-controlled multi-robotic system, delivered as a turnkey solution, for the safe and sustainable de-fragmentation of contaminated steam generators from nuclear power plants in decommissioning phase. This challenge included the cutting into pieces of large generators measuring up to 12 meters in length, 4 meters in diameter, with wall thicknesses of up to 140mm, and containing numerous internal tubes. Our center was trusted the entire process, from concept ideation and design/simulation to prototype manufacturing and mock-up testing, culminating in the final system assembly and commissioning at the customer's site.)
-
development and prototyping of a redox flow battery (This involves the design, construction, and testing of a functional prototype for a redox flow battery, with a focus on optimizing its efficiency, scalability, and performance for industrial applications. The development process includes material selection, engineering of the flow system, and integration of advanced components to improve energy density and reliability. The project aims to explore innovative approaches to energy storage, making it suitable for renewable energy systems and grid-level storage solutions.)
-
structural design and manufacturing of a lifting platform for the Airbus aircraft assembly line (The project involves the design and production of a lifting platform, with a focus on FEM analyses, hydraulic system integration, and compliance with aerospace standards. Key aspects include structural optimization, material selection, and ensuring precision and reliability for use in Airbus assembly operations.)
-
precision manufacturing of components and assembly of adjustment fixtures for CERN (This project focuses on the high-precision production of components and the assembly of specialized adjustment fixtures designed for use in CERN’s advanced research facilities. Key activities include meticulous machining, surface finishing, and quality control to meet stringent dimensional and functional requirements. The fixtures are engineered to ensure precise alignment and stability of critical equipment, contributing to the success of complex scientific experiments and operations at CERN)
-
development of an advanced air decontamination system for long-term space missions (This project, conducted for the European Space Agency (ESA), focuses on the research and development of a cutting-edge air decontamination system designed specifically for long-term space missions. The system aims to ensure the removal of contaminants and pathogens from the spacecraft's atmosphere, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for astronauts. The project involves advanced filtration technologies, integration with life support systems, and rigorous testing to meet the stringent standards required for space exploration)
