Description

The AIR Institute (https://air-institute.com) is a non-profit research organization, aimed at the promotion and development of scientific research in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence. The AIR Institute comprises a multidisciplinary team of researchers who work to promote innovation in the field of information technology, computer science, artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies (ICT).

The AIR Institute has highly qualified personnel as a result of their participation in different national and international projects, providing valuable experience in many technologies, such as: the use of distributed ledger technologies and/or blockchain and cryptocurrencies, the use of virtual organizations for the design of social computing systems, fog/edge computing mechanisms, development of applications and different types of Cloud platforms, use of natural language processing (NLP) techniques and information extraction, sentiment analysis and other mechanisms for the conceptualization of data, deep learning systems, development of intelligent algorithms for different purposes (e.g. the development of machine learning capabilities, or the detection of patterns and relationships between data within Big Data systems), social machines for the development of Decision Support Systems (based on hybrid algorithms that combine case-based reasoning with mixtures of experts), etc.

The AIR Institute is active in a wide range of areas of Digitalisation and industrial modernisation, especially in the areas of  Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Predictive Maintenance, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, Bioinformatics, Big Data and Cloud Computing, Digital Tech for Mobility, Cybersecurity and Blockchain.

The AIR Institute is a member of the 6G Industry Association (6G-IA), the Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe (CLAIRE), and of several Spanish initiatives such as Gaia-X Spain, Move2Future, Alastria or Logistop. The AIR Institute is also a member of the regional network of Technology Centres of Castilla y León (https://noddo.es).

The AIR Institute also coordinates the European Digital Innovation Hub DIGIS3 (https://digis3.eu) and the IoT Digital Innovation Hub (http://innovationhub.es).

Equipment

The AIR Institute is legally constituted in Carbajosa de la Sagrada (Salamanca, Spain) and is equipped with the latest technologies focused on intelligent systems and sensing technologies. It includes IoT/smart grid resources with a smart-grid mock-up and many Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ibeacons, ZigBee, RFID tags, health sensors, etc., as well as prototyping equipment that is used in the different projects.

The main research facilities are established in Béjar (Salamanca) where the Institute also coordinates an entrepreneurship ecosystem, while the AIR Institute is also installed in the Scientific Park of the University of Salamanca, and in the Scientific Park of the University of Valladolid (Spain).

Services

The AIR Institute provides research, development (including prototyping) and training services in the following topics:

Blockchain

The AIR Institute investigates different Distributed Ledger Technologies and their applications, which range from the establishment of smart contracts for traceability in the agro-food industry to the development of cryptocurrencies for the peer-to-peer exchange of energy.

Blockchain

Cybersecurity

Air Institute advises companies to increase their protection against cyber attacks. It carries out complete security audits: Code, Web, Mobile, Blockchain, Malware Analysis, Ethical Hacking, etc. It also offers training in good security practices for company managers and employees.

Cybersecurity

Deep learning

The AIR Institute studies and employs deep neural networks in  different data learning tasks, for example, for the detection of similar objects in images, health complications prediction, or development of robots that react to human emotions.

Deep learning

Deep tech

The sectors for deep tech applications are life science, computing, food and agri tech, aerospace, energy and clean-tech, industrial technologies, telecom, new materials, chemistry.

Deep tech also integrates artificial intelligence, deep learning, machine learning and several other technologies.

Deep tech

Internet of Things

The AIR Institute develops intelligent connected devices that transform indoor and outdoor spaces into smart environments. Their creations include in-field sensors for crop and livestock monitoring, electronic textiles that prevent hazards in industries, medical devices for early detection of infectious disease outbreaks.

Internet of Things

Natural Language Processing

Natural Language Processing is used for numerous purposes, for example, to design robots that are capable of having a conversation with humans, recognizing the sentiments of people, determining their opinion about a topic, or detecting online terrorist propaganda and radical groups.
